This is an article about how a Pentagon report was being kept from being released by the (Bush) administration. It was finally leaked to the British press and it says how the world is at an emergency point with its climate change and it is a threat to the United States that is bigger than terrorism. That all this preservation of the sanctity of the American way is really in vain. The report says that it might be too late and that things are changing beyond repair and that America and Europe are going to become virtual "fortresses" to protect our limited resources. This is information from the Pentagon!!

Do you think that this is true? Part of me doesn't know who to believe anymore. I mean, on the one hand, the Bush administration was against the Kyoto Treaty, a treaty on environmental responsibility signed by over 170 independent countries. So, it makes sense that the administration would try and block this report stating how bad a state that the environment is in, from leaking out.

On the other hand, there was a story a while back that said that the US government was thinking about using international media to spread misinformation to control the image of the United States in the rest of the world (see BBC article here). That misinformation would be spread thought other countries news sources. The problem that was brought up is that news here in the states could pick up on these misleading propaganda stories told internationally and report them locally here in the United States. Essentially being able to spread misinformation (propaganda) here in the United States, to its own citizens. They did decide to supposedly not do this, but I did hear that through an international news story, which made me wonder if they had already started the misinformation and this was part of it--they had already started lying to the world by saying that they weren't going to lie.

So, on the other hand, this could be propaganda for everyone. Propaganda for the rest of the world to worry and look to the United States to be friends with in case that their countries run out of their natural resources. Propaganda in the United States to make its citizens afraid of the world, and that much more dependant on a government that is on the defensive and ready for war with anyone who disagrees with its ways.

So, here we are, face to face, a couple of silver spoons. The opposing facing the opposing factors . What are we to believe? Was the Pentagon report blocked and kept from the public by the Administration? If so, that is HORRIBLE! Was the Pentagon report leaked internationally? And if so, why internationally? How does something like that skip the entire country of the United States, the most greedy media saavy country in the world, how does a document leak to a British newspaper? And why? These are important things to think about, I can think of no comforting reason why. Either way, it is manipulation. Now, if we are being manipulated by the government, to what extent? Should we give the government the benefit of the doubt even if we have already found out that they have tried to pull the wool over our eyes in just the slightest bit? How far does the government go? Are they abusing their power to manipulate the public?
