and the power within

5.4.04

It may be extreme (I was born in SF--what can I say), but, I advocate that women are the key to solving the problems of the world, let alone the United States and that they are being selfishly kept from doing this by the divisiveness of the traditional religious patriarchy of this country. In brief, I believe that if we are to have a much needed revolution (of sorts) in this country, the women's movement has not yet reached its full potential. Unified women's rights have been dispersed by issues that have divided women, like with the issue of choice/no choice. To get beyond the divisiveness and bring women together, focusing on the fact that there has never been a woman President might be the simple answer to the next revolution. To create a general demand for woman Presidential candidates, both Democrat and Republican (and independent) empowers women to see and be empowered by their gender connectedness and cross the divide.

I believe that creating a women's movement towards the Presidency is very important. I know that there have been candidates, but, clearly, women have always been systematically pushed out of the running. When that fact is laid clearly out on the table, I see the women of the United States coming together with a similar revolutionary goal: to recognize the need for full equal rights with men and to demand that symbolically by pushing women candidates to the forefront of the Presidential race in 2008.

If those demands cannot be met, or if people cannot understand the need for a woman President, then I personally would like to hear the explanation why. I created a discussion on tribe.net the other day arguing with this whole forum of men over this. They were all like "I wouldn't just vote for someone because she is a woman!" There were no women responding to the discussion accept a couple who quietly said that they thought the idea was interesting. But, most of the men were totally FREAKING OUT, like it was so threatening to hear someone advocating something like this. The reactions surprised me and encouraged me. To put this in the great words of my friend Jason Trevino, "it is so time and I am so ready."

I mean, its SO RIDICULOUS that a woman has never been President before now. FOR REALS!

What am I doing about this? One thing I'm doing is collaborating with a few, mostly female, artists to start a women's space online (inspired by the "gorilla girls" (see http://www.guerrillagirls.com/ )). It is going to be creatively based, but will expand to include a political voice for women of all backgrounds and races. The space we are building will be located at http://www.gangstabitch.com/ We are pulling it together now-- a "gorilla girls" style group, hence the anonymous members who are going to do great things for the rights of women.
